The prohibition in the OT is part of the Levitical Holiness Code that forbade “cutting for the dead” ie, a pagan ritual to appease the spirits of the dead—a Canaanite practice. The Holiness Code forebade all kinds of things including cutting your hair, beard, mixing two kinds of crops in the same field etc. Actually, Jesus had (to some) the rather annoying habit of breaking the holiness code for the sake of saving/healing sinners.He probably wouldn’t have wanted a tattoo anyway since his wrists, feet, side and back were all scarred from his flogging and crucifixion. Not trying to be rude, but you have to consider the context surrounding a Biblical passage.

In response to how Christians should be and how they are viewed by outsiders… 1 tim 3:7 describing an overseer or leader… ‘He must also have a good reputation with outsiders, so that he will not fall into disgrace and into the devil’s trap.”

This has really challenged me. Sinners should love the church leaders. This seems to not be the reality. The devil would try to make us out as fun spoilers and judgmental assholes and we do fall into this trap.

Thanks for the update but you will be truly missed around here. Your newsletter was really good! Is the community garden still a go? When is # 6 arriving? I see less cars in the driveway today. This is great. We parental units need practical tools to implement discipleship. Note on 4-star. Don’t be offended it’s not a 5-star. My “4-stars” are other people’s “5-stars.” Pretend I will only give out 10 “5-stars” in my whole life. I reserve “5-stars” to “this radically changed my life forever” categories.

Makes sense….in most cases the child reporting the infraction is lacking something at that specific time….( usually parental attention)…the bigger the family the harder it is for a parent to give enough attention to each child…..good stuff..good topic to discuss….cheers Jim
